New generation icebreakers, built at OPK’s shipyards, will take part in winter navigation 2009-2010.

ITAR-TASS, December 17, 2009
New generation icebreakers, built at OPK’s shipyards, will take part in winter navigation 2009-2010.

New generation icebreaker “Moskva” and “St.Petersburg”, built at Baltiysky Zavod yard, a part of United Industrial Corporation (OPK), will first take part in winter navigation in the Gulf of Finland. The captain of Bolshoi Port St.Petersburg announced the navigation would start in December, 16. Because of a sharp cold icebreakers in all northern-west ports will take over the watch in the nearest future.

Alexander Glukhov, a vice-captain of Bolshoi Port, said that fortifying of the small fleet, owing to modern icebreakers, built at Baltiyskiy Zavod yard, will essentially increase the efficiency and navigation safety along icebreaker’s routes. Thus, a use of “Moskva” and “St.Petersburg” will let improve shipping facilities.

For the winter-spring period northern-west ports will service 13 small port and large-capacity icebreakers.
