Shipbuilding ProjectNew Shipbuilding ComplexThe Severnaya Verf-based shipbuilding complex will make it possible to build the entire civil vessel line, including liquefied natural gas carriers, icebreakers, ice ships and offshore drilling platforms, as well as all types of military surface ships, including aircraft carriers. The annual production capacity of the new complex will be 500 thou. tons of deadweight. Construction of the new complex is scheduled for 2008. First, a dry dock is to be set up; it is planned to build it in the Maly Kovsh natural bay. Dock construction is to be finished at the beginning of 2010. The dry dock dimensions - 360 by 55 meters will make it the biggest one in Russia. Simultaneously with dry dock construction, the existing hull facility will be revamped and a new hull shop will be built to make heavy-tonnage vessel hull blocks. The assembly of heavy-tonnage vessels ranging up to 300 thou. tons in deadweight will be performed in the dry dock and the assembly of the vessels ranging up to 60 thou. tons in deadweight will be carried out on the existing building slipways, using a floating dock. At the final stage, a cryogenic liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank shop will be built, which will enable the shipyard to perform complete construction of gas carriers. Furthermore, some of Severnaya Verf’s existing facilities – outdoor building slipways, pipe preparation, electroplating and unitization shops – will be revamped and upgraded under the project. The new construction and revamping of the existing shops will be performed without stopping current production and decreasing the existing capacity of the yard. The new shipyard will be ready to start producing new heavy-tonnage vessels as early as in 2010, and in 2013 the revamped shipbuilding complex will breach its full annual capacity level of 500 thou. tons of deadweight. |
